Local history group’s new facility visited by Mather

North Duffield Conservation and Local History Society received a visit from Selby MP Kier Mather who viewed the new archive and research facility.

Mr Mather cut a cake celebrating the opening of the new building which houses the society’s entire archive of documents, research, photographs and archaeological exhibits from excavations it has conducted in North Duffield, Wood Hall and Wheldrake. There is also display of a model of the village as it may have looked in 1839 when the North Duffield Estate was up for sale, a selection of original documents, photograph albums spanning over 100 years and trays of archaeological exhibits. Mr Mather was interested in the work of the society in producing books and leaflets, and he accepted a copy of its most recent history of the village, 'North Duffield-from ancient community to modern village' covering several millennia of the existence of the settlement. He spent over an hour with members chatting and looking through the various exhibits. (3-9-104 SU)

Paddleboard Selby, a local paddleboarding community group that runs introduction sessions, skills sessions, evening social paddles and other paddle events, held The Big Paddle Cleanup on Sunday, May 24. Household water bills set to rise by more than five per cent
