Your wonderful toys for this year’s Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal are being collected here at the Selby Times.
The appeal has been running for over 40 years and asks for toys and gifts for children aged 0 to 18-years-old who may not be fortunate enough to receive a Christmas present this year. Each year co-ordinators of the appeal, Captains Wendy and Jeremy Ferguson-Smith, distribute sacks of presents to families in Selby before Christmas Day. The pair say the aim to make Christmas a special time of year for those who have little or nothing and rely heavily on support from local schools, social services, children’s centres, agencies and the Selby Times to gather toys for their appeal. The toy appeal ends on Monday, December 11, to give organisers chance to distribute the gifts. Over 380 sacks of presents were delivered to local children last year, with demand expecting to rise this year following an increase in the cost of living. You can help by dropping off unwrapped toys or gifts, however big or small, to the Selby Times at 11 The Crescent, Selby, YO8 4PD. Alternatively, cash donations can be sent directly to the Salvation Army on Parkin Avenue, Selby, YO8 8BY or by making a donation on the charity’s Just Giving Page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thesalvationarmychristmas-2023-468?
