Drax Sports and Social Club presents its Pink & Proud Night early next year to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
Dave Whitley, owner of the club, was inspired to raise money for those suffering from the devastating disease after experiencing how it impacted his own family. Dave said: “I’m doing it because in the past 10 years, my mum, dad and partner all died of cancer. Everybody is touched by it. There’s not a single person I don’t know that hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way.”
The fundraising event held at Drax Sports and Social Club on Saturday, January 8, will be a glamorous occasion with entertainment from the international award-winning drag duo - Dream Girls, as well as a fun, tongue-in-cheek performance by local burlesque groups. The local dance groups - Goole Goddesses, Selby Sirens, Selby Starlets, Featherstone Follies, Featherstone Foxes, and Hull Honeys - all form the dance academy Burlesque With Paris. On the night, dance instructor Paris Chantilly will take to the stage to perform a solo routine, while the local burlesque performers will present their entertaining and sultry cabaret routines and traditional burlesque dances. Everyone is invited to come along and watch the truly unique performances, all while raising money for a worthy cause - the only rule is “you have to wear pink”, commented Dave. Guests can expect a glass of prosecco upon arrival, hot roast sandwiches and a night of entertainment, fun and laughter, all while remembering lost loved ones.
Describing the night's events, Dave said: “It will be a night to raise as much money for charity as we can, while also having fun. We are standing up to cancer. We are saying ‘you will not ruin our lives’. He added: “People can bring photos of lost loved ones to have them there with them as well.” Paris Chantilly from Burlesque With Paris, commented: “We are excited and looking forward to being involved with the charity night as it is something that touches everyone's heart. “Everyone knows someone who is suffering from cancer or has lost someone to cancer so it means a lot that we can all come together and do something special at the start of 2022 - which could really make a difference in so many people's lives.” Burlesque With Paris runs classes across Yorkshire and the Humber, inspiring local ladies to build their confidence, feel empowered and learn a new skill.
