A parent teacher association set up to help Selby Abbey Church of England Primary School earlier this year has already raised over £2,400 for several school causes.
Set up in January, Selby Abbey Primary’s Parent, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) has supported the school by organising silent discos, a special golden rule chocolate bar sale, Father’s Day celebrations and this year’s Summer Fair, among others. A representative for the school explained: “The PTFA has given back to the school by supporting new games for indoor playtimes, supplying us with items for the Year 6 breakfast and providing book bags for each child joining our reception class in September.” Headteacher Mrs Ray furthered this by adding that it was “wonderful” to see Selby Abbey building “stronger links” with the community through the work of the PTFA.
She said: “They have achieved so much in such a short period of time and their support has had a big impact on the pupils.” Speaking about their work over the last few months, PTFA chairperson Livvy, vice-chair Louise Farr, secretary Jennifer Czichowski and treasurer Clare Campbell, said: “We are so proud of what we have achieved. “The biggest event we had was the Summer Fair. This was really hard work but it came together and we raised over £1,000 in just two hours! “We’d like to make our fundraising efforts even better next year, and we are looking forward to continuing our work in September, working towards fundraising for a wish list provided by the school.” The PTFA said it was considering applying for registered charity status - something the group says it would need to have once it has raised £5,000. The group said: “Our status as a charity would also enable us to apply for other grants and funding. “We welcome new members and anyone who could give us an hour here or there to support the school, we alternate between day and evening meetings to allow people to attend. “We would like to also thank all the local businesses and shops in our area who have supported us - thank you.” to register your interest in volunteering with the group, please email ptfa@selbyabbey.n-yorks.sch.uk.
The Parent, Teacher and Friends Association at Selby Abbey Church of England Primary School has hosted many fun events for pupils at the school and hopes to continue into the next school year. (25-07-211 SU)
