Selby Tiger Sharks didn’t take long to carry on where they left off pre-Covid with an outstanding performance at the Team Yorvik Viking Sprints last month.
Great performances came from all ends of the spectrum with their first batch of new swimmers showing they will be a force to be reckoned with in the near future. Eloise Redshaw had a superb day with a gold medal in the 50m freestyle and two more PBs in the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke. Millie Rowan’s much anticipated first gala and aiming to follow in her sisters’ footsteps was rewarded with a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle and a PB. Big sister Olivia Rowan continues to improve her prowess in the 50m breaststroke with a superb gold medal in the “A” grade competition and knocking four seconds off her PB. Alice Moore bagged a silver medal in the 100m IM and managed to sneak more Yorkshire times.
Lucy Moore smashed all her events with PBs across the board and a well-earned bronze medal in the 50m backstroke. Seasoned gala swimmer Maddy Stevenson increased her PB times across all of her four events with a speeding ticket in the 50m freestyle. Grace Wilson kept the ball rolling with three third place finishes in the 100 IM, 50m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly, knocking massive amounts of seconds from her PBs. Danielle Cartman also had a good day with great PBs in “A” and “B” grade events coming away with a silver medal in the 50m butterfly. Poppy Hudson re-wrote all of her previous PBs with an amazing 50m backstroke performance finishing fourth and smashing over three seconds off her previous time.
Amanda Laurisonyte had an outstanding day with all of her PBs falling by the wayside and an incredible 17 seconds off her previous time in the 100m IM. She also picked up a speeding ticket in the 50m freestyle indicating that she is getting quicker and quicker. Last, but by no means least and the only boy from the Sharks, Sam Hutchinson finished an impressive fourth in the 100m IM in “A” grade and knocking a spectacular 10 seconds off his previous time. Two third place finishes in the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly all with new PBs set saw this young man have an excellent day at the first gala in almost 18 months. Next up is the Doncaster Dartes meet in September, with almost 30 swimmers entered.
