Carlton Towers 1st XI v Thirsk 1st XI
Needing one point to clinch promotion, Carlton Towers 1st X1 found the task taken out of their hands by Thirsk having numerous players contracting Coronavirus thus leaving them unable to a raise a team.
The result of this cancellation meant that the average points percentage points that Towers were now allowed made it impossible for the chasing pack to catch them, so promotion was achieved without a bat or ball being involved. This does not, however, diminish the outstanding achievement of a village club that now becomes the highest-ranked York and District Senior Cricket League side as they go into next year’s Premier Division and being the leading club in the Selby and Goole Times catchment area - including Tadcaster and Sherburn. Carlton Towers 2nd XI 101-2 Goole Town 2nd XI 99-9 With the 1st XI game abandoned, it allowed the team to give the 2nd XI vocal support as they attempted to gain the five points they required to get promoted. Winning the toss, captain Hardeep Singh invited Goole to take the first innings. Thomas Franks made a splendid 58 with eight fours out of a total of 99-9 off the 45 overs. Marcus Atkinson (5-23 off ten overs) and Nathan Ellam (2-5 off five overs) did the main damage.
Despite losing two wickets for 49, Jake Dawson (25no) and man of the match Marcus Atkinson (40no) saw the team home to victory and the whole 30 points to clinch promotion in emphatic style. In the Sunday Division game against Goole Academy, the 3rd team amassed 168-4. Alex Hartley (32), Nathan Ellam (61) and Tom Haw (47no) scored well, and following his 58 the day before, Thomas Franks hit 63 not out, as did Harjit Singh which saw Goole to a five-wicket victory.
